Obstetrics

After going through the breeding process, the next big step is the birthing process. We are happy to consult with clients about the most ideal husbandry and preventative plans for pregnant livestock. Our doctors are experienced with treating many periparturient and postpartum complications such as pregnancy toxemia, milk fever, and rectal/vaginal prolapse. Dystocia is a common problem that livestock owners and their animals face. Difficulty having the baby or babies can be life threatening to both mother and baby. If an animal is having difficulty having her baby, please contact us within the first hour of her going into labor. This is an emergency and the animal will most likely need birthing assistance. Although, we do make farm calls ideally the mother should be brought to the clinic for in hospital care.
